When a right triangle is rotated about one of its legs (the axis of rotation), the other leg traces out a circular base, and the hypotenuse traces out the slanted surface.

Rotating about the longer leg produces a shape with:

• A circular base (from the shorter leg)
• A pointed top (the vertex on the axis)
• A slanted side (from the hypotenuse)
