    Area  of  rectangle=width×heightArea\; of \; rectangle=width\times height
    =6×4=24  square  inches=6\times4=24\; square\; inches

    Step 2: Find the area of the ellipse

    a={Length  of  minor  axis  of  ellipse}{2}=4÷2  =2  inchesa=\frac\{Length\; of\; minor\; axis\; of\; ellipse\}\{2\}=4\div 2\; =2\; inches
    b={Length  of  large  axis  of  ellipse}{2}=6÷2  =3  inchesb=\frac\{Length\; of\; large\; axis\; of\; ellipse\}\{2\}=6\div 2\; =3\; inches
    ∴Area  of  ellipse=πab=π×2×3=6π\therefore Area\; of\; ellipse = \pi a b=\pi \times 2 \times 3=6\pi

    Step 3: Subtract

    ∴Area  of  shaded  region=24−6π\therefore Area\; of\; shaded\; region=24-6\pi
